Makoto Nara

I am a rising junior engineering major with an interest in mechanical design and fluid dynamics. 

I am working on extracting features from side scan sonar images such as edges and corners which are then fed into a neural network used to identify shipwrecks. I am also working on normalizing the images to account for intensity drop off with distance. Finally, I am also working on creating synthetic seafloors with fake wrecks through CAD software in order to create synthetic side scan sonar data.
